January 31, 2013. Magnitude 6.8 quake hits north-central Chile

A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck central-north Chile on the morning of January 30th, shaking buildings as far away as Santiago, 585km (364 miles) south, local officials said. The epicenter was located 101km (63 miles) southwest of the mining town of Copiapo, where a 50-year-old woman was believed to have died after suffering a heart attack immediately following the quake. There were otherwise no reports of serious damage to buildings or infrastructure as a result of the the earthquake.
