Food security became a key concern in Haiti as Hurricane Sandy decimated the country's agricultural sector, fueling spikes in the country's already high cost of living, international sources said on October 30th. Coffee, banana, and breadfruit crops were all severely affected by the storm, prompting speculation that food prices abroad will also rise.
In Port-Au-Prince, authorities and aid organizations reported that 18,000 families were left homeless after the hurricane and that there was in increase in suspected cholera cases.
