One person was killed, and three more injured, during a violent October 8th demonstration against the government in Fort-Liberte, capital of Nord-Est Department, reports indicated. Several hundred city residents gathered, blockading the city's main road with burning tires before setting fire to a police station. Riot police were called in to intervene.

A separate protest occurred on October 8th in the central city of Belladere in which at least four protesters were injured, sources reported. The demonstrators were reportedly challenging the rising cost of living and lack of electricity.
