The death toll from twin earthquakes that struck the southwestern Chinese provinces of Guizhou and Yunnan on September 7th rose to at least 80 on September 8th. More than 200,000 villages were evacuated after the earthquakes damaged thousands of homes, sparked landslides, and blocked roadways. Heavy rains hampered relief efforts.
