August 31, 2012. Magnitude-7.9 earthquake strikes Philippines, tsunami watch issued across western Pacific

An earthquake reaching magnitude 7.9 on the Richter scale struck some 93km (58 miles) off the coast of the Philippines' Sulangan at a depth of about 32km (20 miles) deep, the US Geological Survey said on August 31st. The earthquake prompted officials in the Philippines, Taiwan, Japan, Guam, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, and Hawaii and other areas in the Pacific region to declare tsunami warning. The earthquake struck just before 08:50 local time. Officials reported no immediate sign of damage or injuries.
