Iran announced that it would now accept foreign aid for victims of the two earthquakes that struck the country's northwestern region over the weekend. Foreign media sources reported that this change of heart could indicate that the country was struggling to cope with the aftermath of the disaster. On August 13th, a spokesperson for an Iranian news agency claimed that the Iranian Red Crescent was capable of managing relief efforts. However, on August 14th, Vice President Mohammed Reza Rahimi said that the country would now welcome foreign assistance for quake victims.
