June 4, 2012. Indonesia's Java Island struck by 6.1 magnitude earthquake

An earthquake with a measured magnitude of 6.1 on the Richter scale struck off the Sukabumi district in West Java in the western part of Indonesia on June 4th. The quake struck approximately 24 km (15 miles) below the surface of the sea, the state meteorology agency said. Tremors were felt in the capital, Jakarta, shaking buildings briefly, witnesses reported. The quake did not prompt a tsunami warning to be issued.
