A strong earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale shook northern Japan on the evening of March 13th, but caused no significant damages or injuries, local officials said. Several towns issued evacuation orders or tsunami advisories after the quake, although the highest water swelling reached 20cm (eight inches) in Aomori's Hachinohe port. The responsible agency lifted all tsunami advisories an hour and a half later.
