Japanese officials issued a tsunami warning on June 23rd after a magnitude-6.7 earthquake struck northeastern Japan, ratting areas affected by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster. Officials warned that the earthquake could lead to a 50cm (20in) tsunami, but officials reported no immediate signs of damage. Officials evacuated some 8,000 homes in Iwate and temporarily suspended Shinkansen bullet train services. Officials reported no new damage to the Onagawa nuclear power plant in Miyai, which has been closed since the March 2011 earthquake.
