Heavy rains hammered southern Haiti for the seventh straight day on June 7th, triggering floods and mudslides and causing homes and shanties in Port-au-Prince to collapse. The official death toll reached 23rd, but officials warned that it may rise as six people remain missing. Runoff from the rain sent rivers surging and flooded many homes as people scrambled to their rooftops. The slow-moving system also toppled trees and debris blocked streets throughout the city.
The storm system has inundated the region, with flooding reported in the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands as well. There have been two deaths reported in the Dominican Republic and one in Jamaica.
