May 17, 2011. Japanese government to reassess economic and energy policies

In the aftermath of the March 11th earthquake and tsunami and the ongoing nuclear crisis it sparked, the Japanese government announced on May 17th it would undertake a review of economic and energy policies in the country. The government also agreed new guidelines on policy-setting would reassess economic emphasis on export-led growth and heavy infrastructure spending on high-speed rail and nuclear power. The government pledged to study "innovative energy and environmental strategies which will meet the needs for safety, stable supply, efficiency and environment."
