Tensions increased on April 20th as the country awaited the final results of the presidential and legislative elections held last month. Demonstrators held marches to demand the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) announce the results as scheduled, after the announcement had been postponed twice. Riots broke out in Gonave on the western coast, Grance Goave, in the southwest, and Saut de Eau in the east. There were no immediate reports of injury. Some followers of the parliamentary candidates expected to lose the election were seen burning tires and throwing garbage in the streets.
Nonetheless, the electoral council confirmed the election of Michel Martelly as president after securing 67.57% of the vote.
