The defeated candidate in Haiti's presidential election, Mirlande Manigat, accused the electoral council of falsifying the results on April 5th. Preliminary results gave Manigat's rival, Michel Martelly, a clear victory with more than 67% of the vote. The results will be finalized on April 16th and legal complaints can be filed until that point. It remains unclear if Manigat will legally challenge the results.
After the preliminary results were announced, thousands of Martelly's supporters took to the streets in Port-au-Prince, dancing and cheering.
