March 9, 2011. Earthquake rattles Tokyo buildings

A magnitude 7.2 earthquake some 168km (104 miles) northeast of Tokyo rattled buildings in the capital city and sent a 60cm (24in) tsunami upon the coastal town of Ofunato. Officials did not immediately report damages or injuries. A magnitude 6.3 aftershock followed the main quake. Some train services in Sendai, north of Tokyo were temporarily halted after the quake. Japanese electricity providers said the quake did not affect power distribution.
