Rescue workers in New Zealand's Christchurch found no survivors on February 25th in the aftermath of the February 22nd earthquake, as more than 220 people remained missing, reports indicated. The death toll reached 113 people on February 25th. Three sites are believed to hold large concentrations of bodies: the CTV office block, the Christchurch Cathedral, and the Pyne Gould building. A number of Japanese, Chinese, South Korean, and Philippine nationals are believed dead. Officials restored power to about 80% of Christchurch although water supplies remained uncertain; officials called on local residents to boil water over fears of contamination. Roadways were damaged by liquification, where the earth loses its strength due to shaking. Looting was reported in some parts of Metro Christchurch in spite of police and military deployments. Some 300 Australian police officers were dispatched to assist their New Zealander counterparts.
