A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck central Chile on February 11th, near the same spot where a 8.8 magnitude earthquake triggered a tsunami one year earlier. Electricity and phone services were disrupted and thousands of people in Talcahuano fled to higher ground following the earthquake, but the government announced that there was no tsunami threat. There was also no report of major damages or injuries. There were, however, a dozen aftershocks reported, ranging from 3.9 to 6.3 magnitude.
