January 24, 2011. Powerful earthquake hits Tajik region

A powerful earthquake struck a remote mountainous region of Tajikistan near the Central Asian nation's border with China. Officials reported that the 6.1 magnitude quake hit about 106 kilometers (approximately 66 miles) southwest of Karakul lake. There were no immediate reports of casualties in the region, but the earthquake was felt in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe, and also in parts of neighboring Kyrgyzstan.
