Haitians prepared for armed clashes as rival presidential candidates called on supporters to take to the streets and push for new elections on December 10th. Sporadic gunfire was reported near the national palace in Port-au-Prince, where at least one man was killed and several more injured. The provisional electoral council, meanwhile, proposed a compromise, offering to recount tally sheets with international observers and the three leading candidates present. However, offer failed to quell unrest, as many have already discredited the elections due to reports of ballot box stuffing, voter intimidation, and fraud.
The U.S. State Department reissued a travel warning recommending all U.S. citizens to reconsider nonessential trips to the country. The Canadian Embassy closed until further notice.
