Haiti's cholera epidemic is spreading faster than originally estimated and is likely to result in hundreds of thousands of cases and last up to a year, according to a senior UN official on November 22nd. Since the disease was first reported in October, some 1,344 people have been killed; UN officials, however, say the real death toll might be closer to 2,000 due to the lack of data from remote areas of the country and cases may number 60,000-70,000 instead of the reported figure of 50,000. The disease is now present in all 10 of Haiti's provinces.
