At least 14 people were killed in St. Lucia after Tropical Storm Tomas triggered landslides on November 1st. The southern town of Soufriere was reportedly the hardest hit town, with Tourism Minister Allan Chastanet saying that it resembled "a war zone." Bridges were reported to be down, cutting off the capital Castries from the rest of the island. Widespread damage was also reported on the nearby island of St. Vincent.
Tomas is now veering towards Haiti, where authorities are attempting to prepare for the storm. Forecasters have warned that Tomas could strengthen again to become a hurricane and that parts of Haiti are in its projected path for later in the week.
