July 21, 2010. Dozens injured as quake strikes southern Iran

It was reported on July 21st that at least 32 people were injured when a magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck Iran's southern provinces of Fars and Hormozgan. Residents of some villages in the southern town of Lamerd in Fars Province were injured in the quake, and damage was sustained to residential units. The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the quake, centered 146 miles (234 km) west of Bandar-e Abbas and close to the Persian Gulf coast, was 21.1 miles (34 km) deep. No fatalities have been reported in the aftermath of the quake. Earthquakes are common in Iran where in 2003, some 30,000 people were killed in a quake that devastated the southeastern city of Bam.
