A magnitude 6.5 on the Richter scale earthquake struck some 295km (195 miles) off the city of Taitung on April 26th, with officials reporting no major damage or casualties. The earthquake came a day after a landslide in Keelung County, some 30km (18 miles) northeast of Taipei, buried three cars and blocked a highway, local media reported. Rescue workers launched a rescue effort for four people suspected buried by the landslide.
