The U.S. issued a warning to foreign nationals visiting Haiti on March 16th, noting that four U.S. nationals have been murdered in Port-au-Prince since a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck the country in mid-January. The alert also warned against an elevated risk of kidnapping following the abduction and release of two European aid workers in the city last week. Foreign nationals who are visiting the country are advised to avoid the city's dangerous slums and refrain from travel after dark to mitigate the criminal risk.
