A one meter high tsunami struck Japan northern coast on February 28th, causing only minor damage and leading officials to lift a nationwide tsunami warning, reports indicated. Pacific nations also suffered from the tsunami, sparked by a magnitude 8.8 on the Richter scale earthquake off the coast of Chile, but reported only minor damage. The warning system across the Pacific proved effective, with hundreds of thousands evacuating coastlines for shelters in the Philippines, French Polynesia, Tahiti, New Zealand, Hawaii, and other areas.
