Geologists and earthquake experts warn that Nepal's capital, Kathmandu, and its 2.5 million people are due to experience an earthquake of magnitude 8.0 on the Richter scale sometime in the near future, putting millions at risk, reports indicated on February 10th. Kathmandu, like Port-au-Prince in Haiti, is served by a single-runway airport but with no harbor, making potential rescue efforts even more daunting. The city is also known for its weak building standards, ineffective infrastructure, and soft sediment.
