Ten U.S. missionaries were charged with child abduction and criminal conspiracy on February 4th, after they attempted to smuggle 33 children across the border to the Dominican Republic. The U.S. nationals claimed to be setting up an orphanage in the neighboring country, but lacked the paperwork necessary to move the children across the border. The 10 U.S. citizens will be sent to an investigating judge who will decide how to proceed.
Meanwhile, Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive increased the death toll from the January 12th earthquake to 212,000.
