A report by the United States Geological Survey on February 1st warns that there is a high probability of another strong earthquake hitting Haiti within the next 30 days. The report warned that there is a 3% chance of a 7.0 magnitude or higher aftershock, a 25% chance of a 6.0 magnitude aftershock, and a 90% chance of a 5.0 magnitude aftershock hitting the region. Authorities say the area of the fault zone that did not rupture during the January 12th quake is closer to Port-au-Prince than the part that did rupture. The report also went on to warn those in the capital Port-au-Prince to continue sleeping in tents and avoiding buildings, even those declared safe since the January 12th 7.0 magnitude quake rocked the country. Since the 12th, strong aftershocks have been frequent but have been decreasing.
