September 26, 2013. 7.0-magnitude earthquake off southwestern coast of Peru

A magnitude 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck off the southwestern coast near the department of Arequipa shortly before noon on September 25th, media reported. Three unconfirmed deaths were reported when minors were buried in a mine shaft and nearly a dozen other injuries reported. The quake caused several landslides, including one which blocked parts of the Panamerican Highway near the Chaparra Bridge.

Further damage to homes and schools was reported throughout Arequipa. The quake was felt in the capital city of Lima, located 504km (313 miles) from the epicenter, although there were no reports of injury or damage.
