July 31, 2013. Carnival of Flowers violence injures 183 people in Port-au-Prince, Haiti

SOURCE: Kroll

At least 183 people were injured in street fights on the first day of Port-au-Prince's "Carnival of Flowers" celebration, international media said on July 30th. Separately, another person was killed when he fell from a float. The celebration began on July 28th and would continue until July 30th, drawing tens of thousands of revelers. The festival was created by President Michel Martelly after he moved the tradition carnival celebrations in February 2013 away from the capital in order to develop Haiti's rural areas.
