June 10, 2013. Two out of three people face hunger in Haiti

Sources reported on June 10th that 67 percent of the Haitian population go without food some days, cannot afford a balanced diet, or have limited access to food. As many as 1.5 million face malnutrition and other hunger-related issues. Much of the crisis stems from too little rain, and then too much. A drought in 2012 destroyed key crops, followed by flooding caused by the outer bands of Tropical Storm Isaac and Hurricane Sandy. Experts on the situation also attributed Haiti's hunger issues to decades of bad political decisions, as well as the storms and drought in 2012.
