Chinese rescue workers battled clogged roads, rubble, and landslides to find survivors after a powerful earthquake struck southwestern China's Sichuan province and left at least 188 dead, reports indicated on April 22nd. The region experienced more than 2,000 aftershocks, which raised the risk of landslides for rescue workers. Rescue team struggled to reach the remote villages in mountainous Baoxing County. The 6.6-magnitude earthquake that struck Sichuan province, near Lushan, on April 20th left at least 188 dead, 25 missing, and more than 11,000 others injured. Local officials said some 17,000 local families lost their homes, with some complaining they had not received food or water. Officials deployed more than 18,000 soldiers and police, as well as five drones, to help thousands of rescue workers.
